Refuse Collection Crews Risk Assessments and On the Job Training

The course is designed to ensure that the employer has carried out risk assessments and given guidance on safe working practices for Refuse Collection Crews in line with current HSE guidelines.

Our NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) qualified Trainer will spend a full working shift with each crew carrying out risk assessments and on the job training in three key areas.

Manual Handling - lifting of loads, manoeuvring of wheelie bins and trade bins, terrain, access to premises, personal capabilities and training requirements etc.

Safe Working Practices - ensuring that staff are aware off and use protective clothing and equipment, understand and operate lifting equipment safely, awareness of danger to the public, safety procedures on public highways etc.

Banksman Training - ensuring that the crew and driver operate as team, understand the correct procedures for stopping traffic and assisting in a safe reversing or manoeuvring procedure using the recommended HSE hand signals.

An overall report will be produced with recommendations to improve operating safety if required.

Individual reports on specific rounds that have unique problems may also be produced with illustrations and suggested recommendations for action.

Each crew will receive a detailed risk assessment report covering each Manual Handling and Banksman activities and certification that the assessment and any necessary training has been completed.
