'Periodic Training' -  Commercial Vehicle Driver Course Modules

Each course module consists of one seven hour session or two three and a half our sessions, each of which must start within a 24 hour period. These are samples only and many of our clients are requesting bespoke courses that are relevant to their industry and operation.  We will be pleased to work with you to devise JAUPT approved courses that meet your training needs.

 

Module 1       Defensive Driving - Theory Only

What is Defensive Driving?

Drivers' perceptions on road safety

How accidents happen - human error, concentration & anticipation

Common accident situations and causes

The Roadcraft "System" of vehicle control

Applying the "system" in worked examples

 

An alternative module with practical  on road training is

Safe & Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED)  Theory & Practical -  must be delivered in one session

 Module 2      One Day Theory & Practical Defensive Driving Course

Group Discussion - Consider the risks & hazards facing drivers daily and the contribution of human behaviour to collisions both on the road and on site

Introduce the concept of Defensive Driving and explore the benefits of driving "systematically" to anticipate and compensate for approaching hazards

In Vehicle Training - Physical checks of the vehicle, driver's eyesight and licence ( optional)

Initial assessment drive by delegates followed by review and practical coaching in a range of driving conditions including urban rural and fast roads.

End of course review followed by a written report for each driver shortly after the course

Drivers' Hours - The law and worked examples

Module 4    The Transmission system and Safe Loading

Use of engine, gearbox and power bands to minimise wear and tear

Fuel efficient driving styles

Load and axle weights.

Packaging types and load restraint

Module 5       Managing Risk

Health & Safety Management

Analysis of accidents at work and on the road.

Hazard awareness

Dealing with Emergency Situations

First Aid in Emergency situations

Operators legal obligations and compan liability

 

Module 6      Driver Health and Fitness to Drive

Manual handling - including exercises

Fitness - a healthy heart, sensible exercise, rest etc

Diet - Healthy eating and drinking

Effects of alcohol and drugs - prescription and illegal penalties

Managing stress and fatigue

 

Module 7      Company Image and Service Standards

Understanding your industry

The role of the driver in customer relationships

Being an ambassador for the company

Standards of behaviour, service and company image
