A major power company required a cost and time efficient method of training over 600 meter installer/reading staff with minimal disruption to customer service. We devised a format to train 32 drivers per week. So one instructor ran a morning theory session for 16 drivers on a Monday morning, and a further 16 drivers on Monday afternoon. Over the next four days two instructors conducted two half day in vehicle training sessions on a ratio of two delegates to one instructor.

Countrywide plc are the country’s largest estate agency with over 1200 branches throughout the UK. With over 5000 company cars and many young drivers, managing road risk is a major priority which is given plc Board level support. To minimise business disruption courses are held at local branches – two drives a.m. and two p.m. Since 1992 over 14000 drivers have attended the course and claims frequency has more than halved.

Case Study

A leading global gas exploration and distribution company has an ingrained health and safety culture which extends to all employees in all environments – including the daily staff commute to the Reading head office. A board level decision was made to train all staff based at Reading – over 1500 people. Course notes were used as a substitute for a formal theory session and instructors trained three delegates per day on a 1:1 in vehicle ratio. The offer of training was extended to spouses and partners of all staff.
