What is Defensive Driving?

Our course joining notes make the point that:

Driving your vehicle is likely to be the most dangerous thing that you do on a daily basis. Nine people per day are killed on the UK’s roads. If you drive 25000 miles a year your chances of being killed in a crash are nearly as high as if you were working in a coal mine or a quarry. Add to that the pressures of your job and it is easy to understand why 30% of all fatalities and serious injuries involve someone who is at work. This course is designed to make you a safer driver. It is not a driving test – there is no pass or fail.

Defensive Driver Training courses can substantially reduce these risks. Research shows that a driver who has received further training is up to four times safer than an untrained driver.

Defensive Driving is based on the Police Driving Manual “Roadcraft” which as well as being the basis for Police Traffic Officer training is also seen by many as the bible of the Advanced Driver.

Our Part Theory Part Practical one day course aims to give the delegates the basics of the Roadcraft “System of Vehicle Control” which introduces a planned approach to the driving task.

Delegates learn how to improve their observation, anticipation and planning so that the vehicle will always be in the right place on the road, at the right time, travelling at the right speed with the correct gear engaged and can always be stopped safely in the distance that can be seen to be clear.

It is common for experienced drivers to question the value of attending a course as in they may think that they have little to learn.

I’ve been driving for 30 years, I’ve got nothing to learn
